  1. White flowers are so beautiful when they first open, so pristine and at this time of year they remind us of spring. I think any flowers from now on are a bonus and to be treasured.

    • Hi Pauline,

I’m surprised they’re looking as good as they are considering all the rain we had earlier this week! Only the white roses have suffered so I couldn’t include them.

But yes, anything is a bonus right now. Although I am pleased to see I have a few Cyclamen survived (lost about 4 I think)… Mine are coum so won’t bloom until early next year but will be very much welcome when they do! 🙂

I can’t believe what a change there is in the garden after the rain – loads of things have begun to turn yellow. Just in two days. Such a shame, as it was holding out so well…

  2. Lovely photos Liz. Don’t Japanese anemones lend themselves to great shots. My ideas for flower Friday are very similar to yours but on a pink theme. However it’s raining again so I am hoping it will brighten up soon so I can get out there with my camera.

    • Hi Ronnie,

Early Anemones are gorgeous too – I think I like them all tbh and really would like some pinks; I’ve bought them before but they’ve died. Unsure whether to try again. A house down the road has them in the font, and they seem to be doing very well… Bah.

    • Hi Donna,

Definitely need more white for next year! Oh and I really ought to finish planting my bulbs! Forgot about that 😉 I’d almost finished and so it went out of my mind… I guess I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow morning then!

  3. Love the simplicity of white with golden centers. Your photos make me want to get a real macro lens. Which do you use? And you had mentioned getting a lens like mine – was it the Canon 24-70mm 2.8L? Did you get it? Not that I’ll be doing any lens buying soon after getting the new 7D body this summer. And everything creative is suffering now that my baby has turned into a tornado who trashes the house every time I get on the computer (he’s throwing papers all over the floor as I type). But in a few years he’ll be off to preschool and I’ll have kid-free time to work on things!

    • Hi VW,

I use the 100mm, I do also have a 50mm but it struggles with whites so I haven’t used it in years (not the top-range one, but I’m loathe to spend £1500 on a simple 50mm lens). I haven’t got the lens similar to yours yet, but I do still plan on doing so. I can’t remember which one I’d settled on, so I’ll have to look around again once I’m ready to buy it, but I was looking towards something with an even lower f stop, say around 1.8 or something.

Perhaps I ought to take the 50mm for a spin again. I also have the 7D and it might make better photos with the 50mm than the 50D did.

    • Hi,

      Thanks 🙂
I also wish it was spring… I wish we could start this year again, especially as we had no real summer this year. I’m dreading the winter and hope it doesn’t turn out to be a long, hard one like I’m guessing it will be.

    • Hi Deb,

Indeed the Bees and other insects love most Asters, just waiting for ‘Lady in black’ to bloom now and should provide nice late blooms for the insects to enjoy.

  4. Glorious. I really want to plant some ‘Honorine Jobert’ in this garden, and I have rather fallen for that lovely aster with the slightly pinkish centers, the one just before the ammi. White is such a beautiful “colour” in the garden.

    • Hi Janet,

These Anemones should be ‘Honorine Jobert’ too, I think… I know the first lot I bought were, but can’t remember which I bought this year.
The Aster with the pinky centre is the same as the yellow one – when the blooms get old they turn pinky. Sorry I don’t know what type they are, they were bought very cheap for a couple of pound and don’t think they had a tag… Or if they did, they were called ‘crown’ but I’ve looked on the net and they’re supposed to be purple so unless it was mis-labled I’m stuck.
