Friday Flowers

A quick post today of a vase I had last week, this year David Austin Tess of the D’Urbervilles has plenty of blooms, the most I’ve seen yet so I can easily take some for vases. Gertrude Jekyll will likely feature soon too as she also has plenty of flowers for me to utilise.

    • Hi Cathy,

They last surprisingly well tbh, and as they have a papery type of petal, even dry they continue to look quite nice even if they’ve lost most of their colour. I cut mine because often they’ll have another flush later on in the year.

  1. LOL. I swear I didn’t read this post before mentioning how I love astrantia with English roses . . . it must be that great minds think alike 😉 They’re just a great combo. And Astrantia leaves make a sweet ruffle around the base of a tight posy.

    • Hi VW,

Thanks for the tip re: leaves. I don’t ever tend to use the foliage in vases. Seems like a good idea – I do use grasses sometimes, if I have enough and this year I have enough Quaking grass to be able to spare some for vases.
