Breathtaking! We are still caught in the cold out here on the prairies so we have a long time to go before mine start popping up.. Fingers crossed though! c
Hi,
Indeed, fingers very much crossed that you get your blooms soon!
Really beautiful photos, the markings on the inside of snowdrops are so pretty but you so rarely get to see them.
Hi,
I don’t have the heart to cut any blooms and have them in a vase quite yet… perhaps once I have more and then I’ll attempt more detailed photos to get a really good look at them!
These are beautiful made more so by your photos…
Hi Donna,
Thanks 🙂
Spring bulbs are always the best… I’m not sure why, but I think it’s the beautiful shades of purples, whites and cream that I love so much.
My Thomasinianus Crocus were open today and once again I’m smitten by their purple… it’s just so soft, romantic and utterly stunning.
Beautiful snowdrops, with lots of sunshine to open them up, they are lovely!
Hi Pauline,
It has been rather sunny recently, and of course nice and mild! On Sunday the Ladybirds were out in force; so many around it was amazing!!
I can see why you are tempted by the double snowdrops, Liz. the have delicate markings once they open up. Difficult to take the sort of photos that show them off so well.
Hi Janet,
In general I do prefer simple blooms compared to doubles (Roses are the notable exceptions) but these little ones did tempt me and perhaps I’ll get some nice hybrids with my single snowdrops in the future.
‘Flore Pleno’ is gorgeous but you have only scratched the surface—a multitude of wonderful double snowdrops awaits you.
Hi Carolyn,
Hahaha, I really hope I don’t end up collecting Snowdrops too! At the moment they’re on the same level as Crocii and Irises in that I enjoy them and stick to my favourites but feel no need to go out collecting lots of varieties…
Judging by my recent Hellebore obsession, I’m sincerely hoping Snowdrops don’t take over!
They’re so beautiful flowers…
Hi,
Thanks very much 🙂
Beautiful shots don’t know how you managed to get down so low!
Hi Elaine,
Ah, well the Snowdrops weren’t down low so no scrambling around on the ground for me this time. Although I’m not adverse to getting down in the mud- on sunday I was down on my knees taking photos of Snowdrops at a local Priory with pretty Snowdrop carpets… Yes people did stare at me! 😀
Wow. These are amazing, I have never seen this kind of snowdrop before! I love the delicate green lacy lines!
Beautiful! 🙂
why these are very very beautiful
I am sure they will give you many years of pleasure, beautiful!
Hi Jan,
I hope they will too! 😀 I’ll have to find a very special place for them to go where I can see them easily and get more photos in future.
gorgeous photos! snowdrops are the first hope of spring to me 🙂
Beautiful photos! I love doubles. They are so fun to watch come up every year. Mine travels with me from our old apartment to our house.
Hi Julie,
Many of my plants travelled with me too to our new home! And even those which I left behind I have regretted ever since!
If I moved now it’d be impossible to move everything; I think I’d have to take weeks just digging things up and transporting them to any new house 🙂
Wow, it’s great!
So frilly and pretty! Love the shot that shows its inside striped petals!
Hi,
They’re certainly different to look at; and I do like the simplicity of the ‘nivalis’ snowdrops… Their simple, understated elegance is also very pretty. And I hear the doubles don’t tend to naturalise quite as readily or quickly. So I think it will be a long time yet before I have a nice clump of them.
So, if you just bought them, does that mean you can plant them in the ground now? They sure are beauties!
Hi Sue,
Yes I can plant them now as we’re having rather mild temperatures of 50+F, sometimes nearly 60F at the moment; but I’m torn between having them in the ground but with less access for photos and having them in pots near the house but risk them dying if we have another hard winter of a couple of years ago.
Beautiful photos Liz, they look like slightly over dressed cousins of my own plain ones, very feminine somehow, and yet I think of single snowdrops as male for some reason…
Hi Janet,
I’ve always stuck to plain old Snowdrops, mainly because I’ve never been interested enough to become a snowdropophile! However I do like to have a lot of them and plant at least 100 every Autumn – sounds like a lot but actually only 10 groups of 10 isn’t very much.
Now I just need to decide where I’m going to plant these ones because I want them somewhere I can easily see them – and photograph- but also I don’t want them in pots near the house in case they don’t make it through a very cold winter. So I’m a little stuck at the moment deciding!!
Funny isn’t how we think of some plants as male and others female? Strange! Like people class cars or boats as women and so on. Weird 😀
Glad to hear that you could not resist temptation Liz ~ you made a most wise and discerning purchase 🙂 Your photos really do highlight their exquisite markings.
ah snowdrops!! I annually get leg strain taking photos of them!!
Hi Pete,
Haha, I have no shame; I was in the mud crawling around taking photos at a local Snowdrop garden on Sunday… And yes people did look at me! 😀
No doubt I’ll do the same later in the year with the Bluebells too; and I’m looking forward to it.
They are lovely Liz….I have a couple but have not added to them.
Your images without doubt do them justice 🙂
Hi Cheryl,
Thanks very much 🙂
I’m more than happy to stick to my basic ‘nivalis’ snowdrops instead. But I do think I’ll probably pick up the odd species here and there.
Great images, Liz. I can see why you liked this one – it’s realy quite striking. I love the delicate markings. Nice choice 🙂
Hi Shirley,
Thanks very much… Still yet to find a place for it to go… lol. I’ll end up fluffing around until the blooms are dead and then forget I even planted them! grrr.
